Book Review: A Few Lessons For Investors And Managers From Warren E. Buffet

Peter Bevelin is an author who spent most of his time studying Charlie Munger, and Warren Buffett and how to improve our thinking. He has authored 4 books, 3 about Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett. Nassim Nicholas Taleb calls him one of the wisest people on the planet. And you can sense it in his work.

A Few Lessons For Investors And Managers is a recollection of the writings of Warren Buffett. Writings that appear in Warren Buffett’s Letters to Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders, An Owner’s Manual (Berkshire Hathaway broad economic principles of operation), and Berkshire Hathaway Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. So if you have already read all those materials, the book's content will be familiar to you.

But what Peter has done is do an outstanding work of recouping the snippets of wisdom from the oracle of Omaha to condense them into groups of advice. Each group focused on a specific topic. Most of the advices are composed of writings that appeared in diverse sources from different years. The author makes it look like a single thought that Warren Buffett had had even though it took many years for the idea to take hold.

The book is very short but full of wisdom. I don’t think I ever read a book with such many insights on a page. It’s a goldmine. I’m pretty sure I’ll get back to it at least once a year. It’s a must-have and must-read for every investor and manager out there. The author has done a tremendous work of distilling in such a simple and short book the essence of the lessons Warren Buffett has to teach all managers and investors of the World.

This book ranks very high in the best management books ever written. It’s not fluff and tactics. Just pure common sense and wisdom. Like Leonardo Da Vinci used to say, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. Management couldn’t have been taught simpler.
